Susan Dey, who had grown up in the nicest possible way since her appearance as a teenager in The Partridge Family, was beautiful California grammar school teacher Jane Benson – the romantic lead for dapper young newspaper reporter Dick Phillips (Kenneth ‘Kip’ Gilman) in this simple, amusing comedy.
Jane bubbled along with the same post-virginal enthusiasm as Mary Tyler Moore. Dick was, alas, a klutz.
Dick was best friends with his boss, Tom (Art Metrano) and Jane became best friends with Tom’s wife Sue (Phyllis Glick). Sue thought Jane could do better. Tom knew Dick had a real doll.
The Spring tryout series was not a hit and lasted only a few weeks in 1977.
