This thirteen-part drama series from BBC Scotland aired on the BBC1 network in the summer of 1977.
An attempt to build upon the success of the long-running BBC TV medical drama series Dr Finlay’s Casebook (1962–1971) – which starred Bill Simpson in the title role – saw Simpson return in the lead role, this time as Argyll vet Donald Mackinnon who ran his own practice in Inverglen, assisted by his grown-up daughter, Katherine (Sandra Clark).
Also in the family was his recently widowed sister-in-law Margaret, played by American actress Mikel Lambert.
Donald was also a member of the local district council and chairman of the planning committee.
As might be expected from the tales of a Scots country vet and his family and community, episodes proceeded at a leisurely pace.
