Set in the garment district of Manhattan – in the vicinity of 7th Avenue (Fashion Avenue) and West 36th Street – Needles and Pins starred Norman Fell as Nathan Davidson (usually simply called “Mr D”) who was the owner of Lorelei Fashion House.
Wendy Nelson (Deirdre Lenihan, pictured) was the bright but naive daughter of a friend of his who came all the way from Nebraska to get a feel for the garment business.
Other characters included the firm’s main salesman Charlie Miller (Bernie Kopell), fabric cutter Max Popkin (Larry Gelman), pattern maker Myron Russon (Alex Henteloff), bookkeeper and secretary Sonia Baker (Sandra Deel) and Lorelei’s flamboyant new designer Harry Karp (Louis Nye), who was the bumbling brother-in-law business partner of Nathan Davidson. When things were going his way, Harry would say “Oh, perf”. Lorelei’s main fashion competitor was Mr Singer (Milton Selzer).
Only ten of the 14 filmed episodes of the NBC series were aired.
