Batman, Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman returned to save our imperilled world, aided by the Wonder Twins from the planet Exor, Zan (who could take the form of water or ice) and Jayna (who could assume the shape of any animal) and their mischievous blue space monkey, Gleek.
Using their combined powers, cunning and wit, the DC superheroes saved the day again and again with the reminder that good will always triumph over evil. Guests such as The Flash, The Atom, Green Lantern, Hawkman and Hawkwoman appeared occasionally.
In an effort to add racial diversity, the characters of Black Vulcan (a black man), Samurai (a Japanese man), and Apache Chief (an American Indian) were created specifically for the show.
Segments were also added to the show to teach kids about the perils of everyday life, with Wonder Woman warning about the danger of chewing on pen caps or praising children for crossing the street safely.
Another short segment called ‘Decoder’ featured superheroes offering clues about puzzle words, while the ‘Super Friend Magic Trick Showcase’ contained gems like ‘Scissor Sorcery’ (demonstrated by Superman) and a disappearing coin illusion demonstrated by Aquaman.
