Norman Wisdom starred as the little man who could never get things right – causing havoc in a hospital, helping out a needy friend, and preaching on behalf of a charlatan vicar – in this brief ATV series.
While Wisdom had not entirely rid himself of the mannerisms and set pieces on which he used to rely, he was certainly a lot quieter, more subtle and much less concerned with the belly-laugh this time around.
The scripts were thoughtful and entertaining and the shows came across as a weird blend of comedy fantasy (a la Q5 or Monty Python) and slapstick knockabout of the kind normally associated with Norman Wisdom films (complete with oft-repeated raspberries).
