Bushman Charlie Cole (British actor Andrew Keir) and his 21-year-old city-bred grandson Pete Jarrett (German actor Sascha Hehn) travel around outback Australia in a beaten-up pickup, finding itinerant work along the way.
In each place, they befriend locals and become involved in an adventure, culminating in their solving a mystery, crime or local conflict.
Despite the two leads being British and German (it was a German co-production), many fine Australian actors guested, including Wendy Hughes, Judy Morris, John Meillon, Terence Donovan, Leonard Teale, Ray Barrett, Peta Toppano, Serge Lazareff, Lorrae Desmond, John Jarratt, David Gulpilil, Tom Oliver and Cornelia Frances.
Sascha Hehn’s voice was dubbed throughout the series by an Australian actor called Andrew Harwood, as Hehn’s English was heavily accented.
