61 x 50 minute episodes
This BBC1 drama series was a spin-off from The Doctors with Dr Owen (Nigel Stock) now heading up a country practice.
The format unashamedly followed the Dr Finlay formula as regards both personnel (old doctor, young doctor, housekeeping wife) and theme, which is of course, that the family GP must involve himself in local affairs and straighten out the psychological problems of his neighbours, even to the extent of inventing the psychology to fit the situation.
Joan Newell played Mrs Meg Owen.
A complete two-part story was shown each week on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
The theme tune to the programme was Sleepy Shores by the Johnny Pearson Orchestra. The song spent 15 weeks in the UK charts in late 1971 and early 1972, peaking at #8.
