This CBS sitcom about a widower with two sons was based upon the 1969 movie of the same name starring Alan Arkin and Rita Moreno.
Puerto Rican immigrant Abraham Rodriguez (Hector Elizondo) was a kindly, hard-working man who took on three part-time jobs to make a better life for his two motherless boys – nine-year-old Abraham Junior (Anthony Perez) and younger brother Luis (Dennis Vasquez).
The three of them lived in a small apartment in a tough New York neighbourhood. Abraham’s romantic interest was Lupe (Edith Diaz), his neighbour from across the hall.
Others in the cast included Angelo Maggio (Lou Criscuolo) and Mr Diaz (Frank Lugo).
The show fared so poorly in the ratings that it was pulled from the CBS lineup after only five episodes had aired.
The remaining unaired episodes, and a couple of reruns aired during the summer of 1976 in a different time slot, but the ratings were still unimpressive.
