Solving crimes and having fun, the Red Hand Gang was a group of five fledgling pre-teen detectives from the inner city and their dog, Boomer.
Frankie (Matthew Laborteaux) was the oldest and the unofficial leader. JR (J.R. Miller) was the athletic one, African American Doc (James Bond III) was the smart one, Joanne (Jolie Newman) the tomboy, and Frankie’s younger brother, Lil Bill (John Brogna), was the junior member.
Their adventures included catching a gang of kidnappers, preventing a jewel heist, and foiling a museum robbery.
As kidnappers in five consecutive episodes, Maureen Arthur was Lola, Anthony Zerbe was Marco, and James Hampton was Tasker (usually called “Meathead”).
Frankie played an odd musical instrument called an ocarina in every episode of this Saturday morning series from NBC, although it was never explained why.
