The most famous slapstick comedy team in motion pictures provided the framework for a gimmicky CBS cartoon first seen as a segment on Skatebirds in 1977.
Curly (the fat, bald one with weird sounds and body movements, voiced by Frank Welker), Larry (the frizzy-haired finicky one, voiced by Joe Baker), and Moe (the supposedly smart one with a page-boy haircut, voiced by Paul Winchell) worked as crime busters for easily irritated Triple Zero (voiced by Ross Martin).
The bionic android trio often ended up crashing into each other while solving crimes, resulting in a pile of discombobulated joints and springs, but they somehow succeeded in bringing the bad guys to justice.
Also featured in the show were Woofer and Whimper, Dog Detectives, featuring abbreviated repeats of Clue Club.
This Hanna-Barbera cartoon, although mildly successful, could not match the immense popularity of the original Stooges’ films from the 1930s and 1940s, often repeated on local TV stations.
