As the title suggested, this drama series was set in and above San Francisco International Airport. Lloyd Bridges starred as airport manager Jim Conrad; Barbara Werle as his efficient secretary, June; Barbara Sigel as his daughter, Suzie; and Clu Gulager as chief of airport security, Bob Hatten.
The soundtrack was filled with shrieking jets, throbbing engines, blaring emergency trucks, the voices of air traffic controllers (“Roger niner-zero-niner, you are cleared for straight-in approach”) and announcements of arrivals, departures and lost children.
San Francisco International Airport was one of four dramas that formed Universal Television’s Four In One series. The other three were Rod Serling’s Night Gallery, McCloudand The Psychiatrist.
