Satchel (a pelican), Knock-Knock (a woodpecker), Scooter (a penguin) and Scat Cat (work it out!) starred in this B-grade Banana Splits clone, which – like the Splits – also combined wacky bits featuring the hosts with short animated adventures.
Featured cartoons included The Robonic Stooges, with the Three Stooges – Moe, Larry and Curly – now bionic secret agents; Wonder Wheels, about a motorcycle that helped adolescent newshound Willie Sheeler (voiced by former Monkees star Micky Dolenz) and his girlfriend, Dooley Lawrence, to solve crimes; and Woofer and Wimper, Dog Detectives – an edited-down version of episodes from Clue Club.
There was also a live-action series shown in serial form (Mystery Island) featuring scientists Chuck Kelly, Sue Corwin, and her brother Sandy who were trying to keep their talking robot P.O.P.S out of the grip of the sinister Dr Strange.
The evil doctor used a “projector beam ray” to force the trio’s jet Nimbus to land on his island in an effort to capture P.O.P.S, a machine that was a dead ringer for the Robot on Lost in Space. Dr Strange never did hold the robot long enough to learn its secrets, but the humans never did escape either.
After less than six months on the air, the show was cancelled – although The Robonic Stooges was spun off into its own show.
