This trilogy from Yorkshire Television (written by Ray Jenkins) dramatised the pain and anguish of death as seen through the eyes of a young wife and a bereft mother.
Anouska Hempel played the young wife, Dany Duchesne, whose marriage to Claude Duchesne (Peter McEnery) ended in his tragic death in a parachuting accident in France. His bereft mother, Madame Duchesne was played by Faith Brook.
In the first episode, ‘Coming Home’, which is set in Paris and London, Dany breaks the bonds of three years of mourning and sets in motion her emotional conflict with Claude’s mother, with whom she has shared a Paris flat since Claude’s tragic death.
The pathos is heightened by a series of flashbacks to happier days when Claude was alive and the family complete.
