    Sugar Time!

    13 x 30 minute episodes

This ABC comedy series featured three beautiful young girls who were aspiring rock singers and shared an apartment in California.

The talented trio called themselves ‘Sugar’ and were attempting to launch their act – without pay – at the Tryout Room, a Los Angeles nightclub owned by Al Marks (Wynn Irwin).

Beautiful and naive Maxx (Barbi Benton) also worked as a hat-check girl, Diane (Didi Carr), a wisecracking native of the Bronx, was a dental hygienist, and Maggie (Marianne Black), the practical one, taught dancing to children.

A constant threat to the group’s success was Diane’s indecision over whether she should marry her favourite dentist.

Popular singer/composer Paul Williams wrote original songs for the show and was the musical supervisor.

Yes, one of the great presenters. R.I.P.

For fans of the radio series Round The Horne (1965 - 1968) - starring the inimitable Kenneth Williams - there are several full episodes on Spotify. Some of the humour is still pretty close to the edge, even by modern standards. Bona!
