This Yorkshire Television lunchtime production featured Audrey Jeans (pictured above) as the nicest witch in the business. Also along for the ride were Roger Stevenson’s Puppets who found their voices in song and story courtesy of Peter Goodwright (and later, Bobby Bennett).
Audrey Jeans was later replaced as the Witch by Fiona Gaunt and Damaris Hayman. In August and September 1973, Adrienne Posta briefly filled in as The Pink Witch.
Tragically, Audrey Jeans was hit by a car and killed while crossing a road in Paris in 1980 during her honeymoon (following her marriage to her second husband, Cyril Giddy). She was just 48.
