Ann McNeil (Ann Jillian), her husband, Eddie (not seen) and their 15-year-old daughter, Lucy (Lisa Rieffel) live at 1027–64 South Ferry Street in Queens, New York.
Ann is a Radio City Music Hall Rockette and Eddie is a fireman for the city of New York. Lucy attends St. Michael’s High School.
When Eddie is killed in the line of duty, Ann decides to leave the city and begin a new life in the small California town of Marvel (where she and Eddie spent their honeymoon).
Ann and Lucy now live in a small house at 805 Etchfield Street and Ann works as the manager of Aunt Betty’s Coffee and Bean Shop, a quaint eatery owned by Sheila Hufnagel (Cynthia Harris).
Robin Winkle (Amy Lynne) is Lucy’s schoolmate at Marvel High School and Ann’s not too bright assistant at the shop. Melissa Santos, a conceited high school bombshell, is a beauty pageant winner who holds the titles ‘Miss Teen Avocado’ and ‘Miss Teenage Tomato’.
Kaz Sumner (Zachary Rosencrantz) is Ann’s neighbour, a kid who lives with his grandfather, Duke (Noble Willingham).
The series ran in prime time during the winter of 1989-1990 and again in August 1990, ending its run with a brief stop on NBC’s Saturday morning schedule.
