This short-lived night-time drama series from NBC was set in a fancy New York department store owned and run by ruthless Simon Berrenger (Sam Wannamaker) and his two sons, Paul (Ben Murphy) and Billy (Robin Strand).
Paul (the president of Berrenger’s) was trapped in a loveless marriage to his wife Gloria (Andrea Marcovicci) and was carrying on an affair with Shane Bradley (Yvette Mimieux), the store’s merchandise VP.
Billy (who was in charge of Public Relations) was fighting a losing battle with booze and gambling.
Their sister, Babs (Anita Morris), was a divorcee who had spent her entire life trying to win her father’s love and respect.
Babs’s daughter, Melody (Claudia Christian), was married to ambitious Todd Hughes (Art Hindle), who ran Berrenger’s only branch store.
Berrenger’s followed a classic soap opera format and was chock-full of intrigue, sex and double-dealing. Everyone was involved in illicit affairs, power struggles and other assorted intrigues.
Unfortunately, the series went out of business within two months.
