Billy Gibbs (Michael Elphick) is a Leeds-based private eye with a heart condition who is meant to take things easy.
He is beaten up badly in the first episode and is saved by Bloomfield (Marc Zuber), an Anglo-Pakistani wrestler known as The Mad Mullah, who wants to be a Catholic priest.
Bloomfield rescues Billy from the beating by three heavies and gets shot in the leg for his troubles. Billy, meanwhile, suffers a heart attack and they end up in adjacent hospital beds.
Despite being on crutches, Bloomfield is determined to keep a protective eye on the detective’s wife (Carol Hawkins) and daughter (Claire Toeman) – though the prejudiced Billy is none too grateful at first.
