A troupe of small animals – including Billy (a goat), Snowball (a white cat), Percy and Peter Pigeon, Spike the hedgehog, Chip the Superdog, Mary Duck, Sgt Rooster and various other kittens, rabbits, ducks, mice, budgerigars and hens – toured the country as ‘The Buttercup Buskers’ with their eccentric human companion Snowy, travelling in their pedal-powered “multi-coloured busker cart” (converted old-fashioned ice cream carts) entertaining children.
The ITV television series was written and produced by Chris Callery. It aired on “Children’s ITV” on Thursday afternoons between 27 September and 13 December 1984.
The stories were told by Percy Edwards with music by Alan Parker.
Shirly Tennent had the unenviable job of coordinating all the various animals.
In real life, the eccentric Walter “Snowy” Farr was a dedicated fundraiser for several charities and was awarded an MBE in 1995. He passed away on 8 March 2007, aged 88.
