6 x 60 minute episodes
Former Oxford don Dr David Audley (Terence Stamp) and his team of counter-intelligence agents plodded through this slow-moving six-part spy drama from Granada.
The first episode began with the resurrection of an old RAF Pembroke from a Lincolnshire lake with a skeleton pilot at the controls and ended with Audley spending an unclerical night in a priests hole with the skeleton’s pneumatic daughter (Carmen Du Sautoy).
The series was based on the acclaimed series of espionage novels by Anthony Price but had the look of a low-rent le Carré.
Apparently, Stamp did not want to work in television and only accepted the role because he needed the money. It shows.
