This one-off BBC1 drama featured Tim Roth as Graham, a young insurance salesman who has a passion for militaria and is obsessed with the police.
A serial fantasist, he persuades gullible Yorkshire scaffolder Robert (Reece Dinsdale) – an illiterate acquaintance from a local karate class – to join him in posing as policemen to bring criminals to justice and “clean up Britain”.
The pair take to patrolling the London streets at night in their auction-bought red Vauxhall Cavalier (wonky siren and all), dressed as two Metropolitan police constables.
They even fool the local beat bobby and end up giving him a lift.
They eventually get caught out when Graham tries to join the police force for real and unwittingly gives himself away.
Coppers was written by Stephen Wakelam. Location filming took place at Ealing police station in London.
