Dubbed “Auf Wiedersehen Pet with water”, this six-part comedy-drama series from Central TV featured tales of coarse fishing and fishermen.
Filmed in the Midlands with a strong local cast, it followed the antics of the members of The Foundry Piscatorials – a small Birmingham angling club (so named because they drank at the Foundry Arms) whose wives had resigned themselves to being fishing widows while their menfolk went into battle on the river bank.
Key characters included unemployed angler Brian Taylor (former Crossroads star Edward Clayton) – the club’s best fisherman – and his nurse wife Evie (Annie Hayes); Starkers (Kenneth Hadley) and his wife Zilla (Sheila Kelley, who was married to series creator Stephen Bill); club secretary Taff (Artro Morris); Perce (Brian Miller); Potty (Roy Holder), and brothers Len (Stacy Davies) and Den (Eric Allan).
In the final episode, Brian opened a tackle shop with unexpected financial backing from Potty.
