John Alderton returned to sitcoms in this Channel 4 series – his first major series for four years.
Alderton had made it clear he wasn’t interested in doing any more situation comedy as the standard was so low. But he made an exception for Father’s Day as he felt it was fresh and original.
Another surprising decision he took (with his wife Pauline Collins) was to allow their ten-year-old daughter Katie to play the role of one of his three children in the series.
The theme song was written by Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford of Squeeze and sung by Paul Young.
