44 x 60 minute episodes
The mythical town of Springwood was the setting for this anthology horror series spin-off from the highly-successful Nightmare On Elm Street film franchise which ran for 44 episodes, each introduced and wrapped up by Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger.
Occasionally he was actually in the stories too, most notably Tobe Hooper’s pilot, which gives us the Krueger back-story and trial.
Each episode featured people who were having nightmares in which they died horrible or bizarre deaths. Unfortunately for them, all too often the nightmares came true.
Most of the episodes were structured as two-part stories, in which one of the survivors from the first part became a victim in the second part.
During the first season, the featured performers were primarily young and unknown, with some more familiar faces (Tony Dow, Sheree North, David L. Lander, and Mary Crosby among them) showing up the following year.
