This tragic effort from Thames Television – “showcasing fashions by Jeff Banks” – was full of catwalk models and a nasty pastel 80s logo.
“Gems” was the name of the fashion design company based in Covent Garden – although the exterior face of the Gems shop was actually an old electrical factory in North London – which was managed by the Stone brothers, Alan (Cornelius Garrett) and Stephen (Stuart Fox), whose differences in outlook and temperament meant the business was often in trouble.
The storylines (such as they were) focused on the professional problems and personal lives of the employees of the company.
It really was awful.
