Premiering on 12 April 1983, this ITV comedy series starred Donald Churchill (who also co-wrote the episodes with Joseph McGrath) as former Butlin’s Red Coat and stand-up comedian Ronnie Kemp, who now hosted a top-rated television quiz show called Keeping Up With The Jones’s.
He was loved by millions for his on-screen persona and had a Rolls-Royce and a driver called Harry (Nick Stringer), and a house with three acres in the stockbroker belt, but he was still deeply unhappy.
When he heard that his ex-wife Audrey (Rowena Cooper) was remarrying, Ronnie danced for joy. With the thought of not having to pay any more alimony, he threw caution to the wind and forced money on his beautiful new wife, Celia (Judy Loe), and her father, Geoffrey (James Cossins), in a bout of uncharacteristic generosity. His joy was short-lived when he discovered Audrey had not finished wth him yet.
