“This is my boss, Jonathan Hart, a self-made millionaire. He’s quite a guy. This is Mrs H. She’s goigeous. She’s one lady who knows how to take care of herself . . . By the way, my name is Max. I take care of both of them, which ain’t easy – ’cause when they met, it was moider”
Created by best-selling novelist Sidney Sheldon, Hart To Hart revolved around Jonathan and Jennifer Hart, two rich, stylish super sleuths.
Jonathan (movie star Robert Wagner) was a self-made millionaire and head of the huge Hart Industries corporation; Jennifer (Stefanie Powers) was an internationally renowned freelance journalist – who, unfortunately, was also prone to serial kidnap!
From their mansion in Beverly Hills, they kept their continuing love affair ablaze by setting out each week on a new adventure.
They hit the glamour spots of the world in their private Lear jet, rubbed elbows with the rich, famous, and not-so-famous and, along the way, solved crimes that had local law enforcement bodies baffled.
Gravel-voiced Max was their faithful chauffeur, butler and confidante, and Freeway was their dog – so named because that’s where they had found him (the dog, not Max!).
Episodes usually ended with the frolicking Harts under the duvet indulging in such repartee as: “What could be better than milk and cookies in bed?” “You’ll find out in a few minutes”.
In 1993, Jonathan, Jennifer and Max returned for the first of eight two-hour Hart to Hart movies. Wagner and Powers then portrayed the couple three more times.
