11-year-old ginger-headed Henry Hooper (Courtney Roper-Knight) loves collecting old junk. It’s his only comfort since his dad left home and with his mum struggling to make ends meet.
He keeps dead hedgehogs in the fridge while waiting to sell them to a laboratory, and he relishes cornflake sandwiches enhanced with generous dollops of ketchup.
When he spots a discarded leg from a fashion dummy in a dustbin in Jubilee Street, Henry thinks his luck is in.
But others want the leg for more sinister reasons.
What makes the leg so valuable makes an exciting tale for youngsters.
Much of the twice-weekly ITV series – adapted from a novel by Ann Pilling which won the 1986 Guardian Children’s Fiction Award – was shot in Faversham, Kent.
