Jennifer Farrell (Ann Jillian) was a young girl with a dream of becoming a movie star. At the age of 17 she defies her mother (who wants her to become a beautician) and leaves her home in Illinois to pursue her dream in Hollywood.

She made her television debut as a banana in the audience of Let’s Make a Deal, and several months later, in 1966, when Jennifer was 18 years old, hungry and flat broke, she posed nude for a calendar. The calendar was never actually released as Jennifer got a job shortly after and bought up all the copies.

Jennifer landed a small role in the movie Desire, but it was her outstanding singing and dancing performance in her next film, Stairway to Paradise, that brought her overnight stardom. Jennifer – with the body of Marilyn Monroe and the attitude of Mae West – soon became one of America’s most glamorous and beloved stars.

Jennifer’s untimely death in 1978 saddened the world.

Five years later, New York lawyer George Elliot (Brandon Maggart), his wife, Susan (Georgia Engel), and their children, 14-year-old Joey (John P. Navin Jr) and 6-year-old Marilyn (Mya Stark) move into Jennifer’s fabulous mansion at 32 Rexford Drive in Beverly Hills.

Shortly after, while settling into his room, Joey is startled to see Jennifer’s ghost when she appears and speaks to him (as she feels he needs help and has decided to guide his life). Most of the time, he is the only one who can see her.

Jennifer helps him Joey through puberty while Joey’s friends at Beverly Hills High, especially Marc (Glenn Scarpelli), wonder why he talks to thin air a lot of the time.
