Jessica Novak (Canadian actress Helen Shaver) was a former weather girl from Walla Walla, Washington, who now worked as a TV features reporter for Close-up News on KLA-TV Channel 6 in Los Angeles, covering sandcastle contests and couples who have been married for 50 years.
Jessica wanted to be an investigative journalist, though, and sometimes found herself acting more like a detective as she uncovered information that helped the police and Public Defender Vince Halloran (Kip Gilman).
Her team in the field were cameraman Phil Bonelli (Andrew Rubin) and soundman Ricky Duran (Erik Kilpatrick).
Back at the station, Max Kenyon (David Spielberg) was the harried news director, Audrey Styles (Nina Wilcox) was the videotape editor and Jackson Gage (Michael D Roberts) was the co-anchor.
Jessica lived at 318 Briarwood Avenue and her best friend was Katie Robbins (Lara Parker).
The CBS drama was not well-received and the script by Jerry Ludwig, the show’s creator, was laden with absurdities and caricatures. Sadly, no amount of acting talent from Helen Shaver and her colleagues could keep the episodes afloat.
The series was cancelled after only five weeks on the air.
