This animated NBC series – based on a book by animator Phil Mendez – starred a young circus bear cub named Christopher whose friends couldn’t pronounce his name, so called him “Kissyfur”.
Unhappy with life in the circus after losing his mother, Kissyfur (voiced by RJ Williams), and his father, Gus (voiced by Ed Gilbert), left the big top to begin life elsewhere.
Stories revolved around their adventures as they attempted to settle down to their new lives in the southern swampland community of Paddlecab County, where they set up a water taxi business transporting other animals and their products across the swampland.
Their friends included Stuckey (Stu Rosen), a pessimistic porcupine; Duanne (Neilson Ross), a pig who hated to get dirty; Tiny Toot (Russi Taylor), a baby beaver who idolised Kissyfur; and speedy little Beehonie (Russi Taylor), a bunny who could outrun everyone.
The arrival of Kissyfur and his dad was not to the liking of all the swampland creatures, especially two devious, sharp-toothed alligators named Floyd (Stu Rosen) and Jolene (Doug Parker), whose chances of “easy dinners” was taken away when Gus and Kissyfur started their water taxi service.
