Small-time Jewish private detective Bernie Weinstock (Dick Emery) runs ‘Crimebusters International’ from a tatty caravan at the bottom of his garden.
Bernie’s dream of hitting the big time comes true when he’s given an assignment to trace six people who have been missing for 30 years, with a reward of £5,000 for each one still found alive.
Barry Evans co-starred as his sidekick, milkman Robin, with Richard Vernon as a family solicitor, and Michael Robbins, Patsy Rowlands, Irene Handl and Roy Kinnear in supporting roles.
Emery also appeared in a variety of other guises, including eccentric Lord Algrave, the sinister Lady Monica Danvers-Crichton, gangster Joe Galleano, and aggressive old housewife Mrs Oldfield.
The series was shot on film with locations including Paris and Tunisia.
Dick Emery reprised the role of Weinstock in the 1983 series Jack of Diamonds, which was to be his last performance before he passed away in January 1983.
