The animated adventures of Jim Henson’s Muppets – as babies who all lived together in a nursery.
Baby Kermit, Piggy, Gonzo, Animal, Fozzie, Rowlf, Scooter, Skeeter (and later Beans Bunny) had adventures using only their imagination, under the care of their green striped socks-wearing Nanny (voiced by Barbara Billingsley of Leave It To Beaver fame).
The Muppet Babies were seen in cartoon form, but the series imaginatively mixed in live-action footage,
music, and guest appearances by real-life showbiz people.
Guest stars included Steve Martin, Whoopi Goldberg, Michael J Fox (as Alex, his character from Family Ties), Andrew McCarthy (as Blane from Pretty In Pink), Bill Cosby (as his creation, Dr Cliff Huxtable), Kenny Baker (as R2-D2), David Prowse (as Darth Vader), Tom Selleck, Drew Barrymore and Jim Henson himself (as Dr Teeth).
The show was hastily expanded to ninety minutes in 1987 to fill the gap caused by the cancellation of Garbage Pail Kids, a controversial cartoon show that never aired. In the fall of 1988, it went back to an hour.
