This BBC series from Trevor Bond featured moustachioed old-school village bobby PC Bob Pinkerton who lived with his wife, Jill, his son Peter and daughter Jane – and the police station dog, Slipper – in the sleepy (fictional) village of Cleybourne.
Along with Sergeant John Walker (a black Northerner) and Inspector Bell (the female boss), PC Pinkerton helped the (very multi-cultural) village folk with their day-to-day problems and thwarted very low-level crimes – such as finding a missing tortoise or investigating why the milkman is late.
Village residents included Dai Rees the milkman, elderly Mrs Crumble and the village vicar, Reverend Brown.
PC Pinkerton often broke the “fourth wall” to address the viewer directly. The series aired between 13 September and 6 December 1988.
