This short-lived CBS sitcom starred 16-year-old Scott Creasman (Bruce Norris), who wanted to be in the movies but working in the Majestic Theatre – a classic once-opulent art deco movie palace in Kansas City – was as close as he could get.
The other teenagers dispensing confectionery and snacks with him from the “nerve centre of the Majestic” (the candy counter) were the wholesome Gwen Stottlemeyer (Penelope Ann Miller), who was enamoured of Scott; the athletic Willie Dawson (Jeff Joseph), and sexy new arrival, Lynn Holly Brickhouse (Faith Ford) – a dumb blonde cheerleader who Scott considered “the flagship of the female fleet”.
Leonard Brown (Raye Birk) was the jittery, snide cinema manager, and Marlin Bond (John Christopher Jones), the spaced-out projectionist, given to making shadow puppets on the screen while the movie is playing.
Created by Barry Kemp (also the creator of Newhart and Taxi) and produced by MTM Productions, the writing was inventive and quick-witted, and the no-name cast deported themselves splendidly.
