Three Vietnam veteran army buddies – Cody Allen (Perry King), Nick Ryder (Joe Penny) and Murray ‘Boz’ Bozinsky (Thom Bray) – were private detectives who ran the Pier 56 Detective Agency and lived on Cody’s trawler, the Riptide, docked at Pier 56 in King’s Harbor, a Southern California marina.
They also had a Corvette, a speedboat named the Ebbtide and an ageing helicopter called the ‘Screaming Mimi’ – a bulky Sikorsky painted pink with a gaping mouth on the front.
Cody and Nick were hunks while Boz was a likeable nerd and a computer whiz. Together, the three of them tackled cases that invariably involved high-speed chases, explosions, and beautiful girls in bikinis.
‘The Dool’ (Ken Olandt) was a dock boy who occasionally did some of the legwork for the trio.
The Riptide was moored next to a charter cruise ship – the Barefoot Contessa – owned by Mama Jo (Anne Francis) and staffed by an all-girl crew of lithe beauties with names like Tami, Bambi and Brandy.
