Rocky Hollow debuted on the S4C channel in Welsh as Deri Deg in 1983. It was later broadcast in English on ITV in 1989, and repeated on Channel 4 in 1996.
The secret magical world of Rocky Hollow was home to wise old Mr Oak; his mischievous skateboarding nephew, Acorn (Mesen in the original); their tall, skinny (and clumsy) scarf-wearing friend Sycamore (Sycamorwydden); the invariably well-dressed Miss Myrtle (Miss Myrtwydd in the Welsh version), who liked organising picnics; resident handyman Conker; and bespectacled Rosie Woodpigeon who delivered all the mail in Rocky Hollow, dressed in a postman’s hat and yellow gumboots.
The English language versions of the five-minute stories were narrated by Peter Sallis (the Last of the Summer Winestar who later became the voice of Wallace in Wallace and Gromit), while Dillwyn Owen narrated the Welsh language episodes.
The stop-motion series was produced in Wales by Bumper Films for S4C. Rockscene Ltd provided the animation.
