56 x 105 minute episodes
This Saturday morning children’s variety programme was presented by Tommy Boyd and Isla St. Clair (with her dog, Angel) and featured games, cartoons and special guests.
The show was introduced to replace Tiswas and ran on ITV for two series between 1982 and 1984. It was originally planned that popular wrestler Big Daddy would host the show but this did not eventuate.
Actor David Rappaport was a regular on the show playing the character “Shades” (who had also appeared in the final series of Tiswas), as was footballer Jimmy Greaves.
When Isla St Clair left to carry on her singing career, her place on the show was taken by Bonnie Langford.
In 1984 it was decided to set the show inside a spaceship and rename the programme The Saturday Starship.
The new show only lasted one season.
