6 x 45 minute episodes
Premiering on Saturday 22 January 1983, this late-night revue-style comedy show from Central Television aired for six weeks in January and February 1983.
Hosted by Chris Tarrant, it was intended as a sequel to OTT (itself a spin-off from the much-beloved Tiswas), which had been a critical disaster for Central.
Episodes were pre-recorded in pubs, notionally as an illegal after-hours “lock-in” drinking session (hence the show’s name).
Regulars on the show included Bob Carolgees, Helen Atkinson-Wood (kneeing Tarrant in the groin as the punchline to virtually every other sketch) and newcomer Tony Slattery.
Guests on the six shows included musical acts Thin Lizzy, Suzi Quatro, Rocky Sharpe and the Replays, Hawkwind and Chas and Dave; comedians Frank Carson, Bernard Manning, Jim Bowen, Norman Collier, Charlie Daze; and Tarrant’s former Tiswas co-host Sally James. The catchy theme tune was provided by Roy Wood from Wizzard.
Even the drinkers in the pubs seemed bored!
