The mysterious Scarf Jack (Roy Boyd, late of Emmerdale Farm) sets out to save the Irish peasants from the evil Hunter Gowan (Bernard Kay) and his henchmen.
Once the scene is set in Ireland, much of the action is transferred to rural England and the beautiful stately home of kindly country gent Mr Edward (played by Richard Greene, who had previously starred in the title role in 143 episodes of Robin Hood between 1955 and 1958).
Most of the location filming was done in the New Forest in Hampshire. Although parts of it look like the remotest part of Ireland, it was only five minutes away from the main road.
The village of Shaftesbury in Dorset was also used for location shooting (the village used in the Hovis TV advert featuring the boy pushing his barrow up Gold Hill).
