1 9 8 3 – 1 9 8 5 (UK)
12 x 30 minute episodes
This BBC series brought us the Shelton family – Mum Elaine (Maggie Ollerenshaw), ex-supermarket manager dad Steve (David Gooderson) and teenagers George (Aaron Brown) and Sandy (future Blue Peter presenter Yvette Fielding) – who had just begun managing a small seaside guest house in Blackpool.
The kids George attended dancing classes at Miss Farjeon’s Dance Academy on Saturdays.
Sandy wanted to be a star, while her speccy younger brother George dreaded the prospect and was constantly concocting money-making schemes – often with his new friend, local boy James Moffat (Chris Hargreaves) – which invariably went awry.
Their overbearing mother just wanted one of her children to be famous. Meanwhile, Dad Steve only wanted to know who was going to help him paint the Seaview Private Hotel.
When Seaview returned for a second series, there was a change of emphasis and the show became more soap opera than situational comedy, with the ongoing story arc of Sandy’s romance with her new boyfriend Ian (Mark Jordon).
George also had his first brush with romance when he met keep-fit enthusiast Lisa (Catherine Pratt).
The Sheltons had now moved to a different hotel and there was a new baby brother (only seen or referred to in the opening episode).
