Top motorcycle cop Jesse Mach (teen heartthrob Rex Smith) is badly injured in a crash and assigned to desk duty, but after undergoing cutting edge “experimental” surgery he joins forces with federal agent, scientist and inventor Norman Tuttle (Joe Regalbutto) who has created a super-secret all-terrain police attack motorcycle called the ‘Street Hawk’.
The $3 million mega-bike can travel at “hyperthrust” speeds of up to 300mph, has a computerised targeting system, and is equipped with all manner of gadgets and gizmos purpose-built for crime-fighting.
And so, by night, Jesse dons a futuristic black helmet and fights crime on city streets on the Street Hawk. By day he maintains his cover at a desk in the police public information office.
The motorbike in the pilot episode was based on a 1983 Honda XL500, whilst the ones used in the series itself were based on 1984 Honda XR500’s. Overall, fifteen motorbikes were used in the show.
