During a thunderstorm, teenager Bret Mathews (voiced by Michael Mish) drove his sports car off the road and into a top-secret government laboratory, where he collided with a molecular transfer ray invented by scientist Dr Chase (voiced by Pat Fraley).
He subsequently found that he could transform himself into his turbocharged red convertible sports car whenever his body temperature rose to a certain heat. Fortunately, he reverted to human form when he cooled down.
His secret was known only to federal officials, his girlfriend Pattie (Pamela Hayden), and his pal Alex (TK Carter), and he used his powers to battle evil (his primary nemesis was Dark Rider in a big-wheeled truck).
