63 x 30 minute episodes
Long-running Children’s TV series telling the stories of Eric (Edward Fidoe), a 10-year-old schoolboy with the power to transform himself into a dog.
Only his best friend Roy (Thomas Aldwinckle) knows the truth and helps him hide the secret from the boy’s parents (John Bowler and Lizzie Mickery), suspicious school-teacher Miss Jessop (Liza Goddard), and headmaster Mr Blocker (John Ringham).
From the sixth series – which began airing in 1993 – episodes featured the adventures of Rex Thomas (played by Adam Roper) and his best friend Michael Tully (Monty Allan).
Rex inherits Eric’s “condition”, and in the final episode of series 8, he becomes Miss Jessop’s stepson after she marries his father, Ken (Owen Brenman). Lionel Jeffries also guest-starred as Rex’s Grandfather.
The ninth and final series aired in 1997 and featured Jim Walters (Sebastian Mahjouri), accompanied by his cousin Brian Barford (Jack Allen) and next door neighbour Carrie Howard (Faye Jackson). By the time the show ended, Liza Goddard was the only original cast member to feature through all nine series.
Woof! was produced by Central Independent Television, directed by David Cobham (who had already been responsible for Brendon Chase and The Secret World of Polly Flint), and filmed in the Midlands, mainly in Birmingham and in Nottingham.
