Charlie Hoover starred Tim Matheson (best known for his role in Animal House) as the titular character – a 40-year-old born loser who had been working in New York City as an accountant for Mr Culberton (Kevin McCarthy) for nine years and was constantly pushed around by life.
He was accompanied through his life by his mischievous 12″ high alter-ego, Hugh (raunchy comedian Sam Kinison), who was invisible to others and lectured him on subjects ranging from safe sex to video dating.
As Charlie’s “inner voice, Hugh constantly pushed “Chuck” to stand up for himself against his co-workers, his boss and his mother-in-law.
Julie Hayden co-starred as Charlie’s secretary, Doris. Lucy Webb played Charlie’s wife, Helen.
Tragically, Sam Kinison was killed in a car accident in April 1992 as a result of a head-on collision with a drunk driver. He was just 38. The other driver entered a guilty plea to one count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
