John Byrne’s follow-up to Tutti Frutti was a six-part musical shenanigan in which waitress Cissie Crouch (Tilda Swinton) employed restaurant journalist Frank McClusky (John Gordon Sinclair) to prove that her country & western-singing husband, Dorwood (Kevin McMonagle), was innocent of a drugs charge.
Which made for a delicious, can-swigging caricature of the C&W scene and the Glasgow underworld – but it took four episodes at least for Sassenach ears to be able to decipher the broad brogue.
Former Fairground Attraction singer Eddi Reader and Katy Murphy played the singing McPhail sisters, Jolene and Billie.
