Set in Glasgow and the fictional town of Gallanach, The Crow Road tells the story of troubled young Prentice McHoan (Joseph McFadden), a 20-year-old student at Glasgow University who is wrestling with the catastrophe that is his life as he strives to uncover the truths buried by his secretive family and to solve the six-year-old mystery surrounding the disappearance of his Uncle Rory (Peter Capaldi, pictured below right).
Prentice is bewildered by a catalogue of woes: sexual frustration; a secret adoration for his beautiful cousin, the “upwardly nubile” Verity (Simone Bendix); academic disaster; a long-running feud with his atheist father (Bill Paterson), the suicide of his idolised friend Darren (Martin Ledwith); and the burdens of a better-looking, wittier, more talented older brother and a family prone to premature death.
The Crow Road was based on a novel by Iain Banks, produced by BBC Scotland and aired on BBC2.
