    84 x 60 minute episodes

Debuting on 15 February 1990, Maze Master Richard O’Brien welcomed teams composed of young people from all walks of life The Crystal Maze.

The contestants collected crystals by tackling different challenges in different parts of the maze. There several “zones” with themes such as Aztec, Medieval, Chemical Plant, Space Station, etc.

The games included a mix of physical, mental and skill-based challenges.

The final two series were presented by Ed Tudor-Pole, formerly of Tenpole Tudor.

The set of The Crystal Maze was the size of a football pitch and at the time was the biggest TV set ever constructed. It cost more than £500,000 and was housed for five years in a disused hangar at North Weald Aerodrome, near Epping in Essex.

The show was revived in 2017 with comedian Richard Ayoade as the new host.
