20 x 30 minute episodes
This sketch show from FOX featured Jennifer Aniston, Tom Kenny and Wayne Knight (Newman from Seinfeld) in the ensemble cast, but the star was Julie Brown – the former MTV humorist whose parody of Madonna was surpassed only by the singing star’s own Justify My Love video.
The series lampooned everything from pop culture to politics but many of the skits fell flat – such as when Brown and Aniston portrayed dim-witted heavy metal groupies; a lampoon of commercials for gym shoes with air pumps; and an unfunny parody of the singing group, Wilson Phillips, where the joke is that Carnie Wilson is fat, so she eats a lot of candy.
There was also a predilection for grade-school humour but at least the skits were short (a minute or less), so if you didn’t like one, the next one would be right along momentarily.
How often do you think Jennifer Aniston thanks God that she was released from this monstrosity in time for Friends?
