This prime time soap opera related events in the life of Felicity Elizabeth Porter (Keri Russell), a student at UNY (University of New York) as she grew from a somewhat naïve and impressionable teenager to a responsible young adult.
Felicity’s parents Edward (Erich Anderson) and Barbara (Eve Gordon) had planned that she would attend Stanford University and become a doctor like her father, but Felicity just couldn’t follow in his footsteps. The closest she ever came was as a volunteer for her tenth-grade blood drive.
Felicity graduated from high school with honours and admired fellow classmate Ben Covington (Scott Speedman), although he did not have the same feelings for her. When Felicity discovered that Ben had enrolled at UNY, she decided to do the same thing. She also used Ben as an excuse to move to Manhattan.
At university, Felicity registered for art courses and found a room at the H. Kevin Hall housing facility on campus. She also discovered that Ben has a girlfriend, Susan (Janis Chow).
Accepting the reality, Felicity and Ben became friends, not lovers and stories followed Felicity as she learned, little by little, about life.
